| 14 CRB 1882 doubleheads with GEA 4023 on a David C. Rodgers Tour charter goods out of Oudtshoorn. Sadly No. 1882 was destined only to survive for another 2 months... After a post-maintenance run-in on the 17th August 1999, the loco developed a hot box and was left in the loop at Camfer - AND THE POINTS LEFT SET FOR THE LOOP! That night it was struck by a freight train. It was declared irrepairable and six months later was cut up. A really sad end for a much loved, feisty performer! |
