Remarks & Notes
The 186 km. branch of the General Belgrano Railroad between Villars and Patricios was the remnant of a swiftly vanishing mode of cost-reduction operation of branch lines during the 80's: the mixed train with a single coach for passengers added to the freight cars consist, namely a "Carga con Coche" in Spanish. Deep in the Winter of 1981 General Electric export-model 75 T. (for "75 metric tons" of weight) has arrived Patricios with the mixed, and is being turned in the "armstrong" turntable after leaving a pair of outfit cars in one of the stalls of the empty and forlorn ex-steam shed. The Villars-Patricios branch agonized during the decade of 1980 with only this twice-weekly mixed (that seldom carried freight) serving the small communities along the line, to end in abandonment in the early 90's after an ill-fated attempt to replace at least the passenger schedule.
