Remarks & Notes |
History Alive: The Shawmont depot was built in 1834 by the the Philadelphia, Germantown & Norristown Railroad (first railroad to build in Philadelphia) and is located in the Manyunk section of Philadelphia, PA. It survives today and is the oldest purpose built surviving railroad depot in the United States. The station was in use till 1990 by SEPTA but is no longer a stop and serves as (believe it or not) a residence. A former Reading Silverliner II exchanges greetings. |
