The entire piggyback track of two cars, four trailers, one caboose and one locomotive can be seen just west of Auburn, AL racing for the L&N ramp in Montgomery, just over 50 miles away. The Family Lines group of railroads tried, without financial success, to develop a market for Atlanta to Montgomery, AL piggyback traffic.
L&N GP38-2 #6020 was built March 1979 and would later become CSX 2671.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
