Remarks & Notes |
Weyerhaeuser #307 is in charge of the downhill Landfill train that is passing the 'old' Headquarter shops at MP 15.25. The Landfill train has just switched cars to take back down the grade to the Longview Mill. The 'new' Headquarter shops are 1/4 of mile to the west of this photo and are shared with the MOW people now based there.. The crew insists that the 307 has great visiblity, a well working cab heater & lots of space compared to the other SW1500's Weyerhaeuser has working currently. The centerbeam to the right was involved in an accident when the engineer acclerlated the train too hard when the train exited the only tunnel on the line back in the early 1980's.. This was a Weyerhaeuser Woods train going from the Longview mill to the Green Mountain Mill which closed on May 1st, 2008.. On the far end of the draft gear, you will see no coupler or drawbar as it has been sitting up at the 'old' shops for all these years since the accident.. That car is the only remaining Weyerhaeuser 50 foot lumber centerbeam car left on the railroad currently. All of the Weyerhaeuser cars that used to carry wood products have been scrapped as well as the Green Mountain Mill. Weyerhaeuser railroad has ended the life of a logging railroad as of May 1st of last year. |
