The very last rays of the sun just illuminate the river valleys where the Wisconsin River flows into the Mississippi River. The exhaust from the 4 lead units fills the air as they pull their stack train across the Wisconsin River Bridge just south of Prairie du Chein, WI. The cliffs in the area are around 500 feet high with Pikes Peak State Park across the river in Iowa. This shot was taken from Wyalusing State Park in Wisconsin. This area is part of the driftless area which remained ice free from the last ice age and the steep bluffs were carved away from glacial melt water.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
