| The little boy could hear the train coming. He ran excitedly to the bridge parapet but even on his tiptoes he couldn't quite see over the top. His Dad lifted him up and sat him on the wall so that he could see the little locomotive pass on its way up the valley. "It's number 1369 Dad, I've not seen that one before". "That's great Son" his father replied, "why don't we go up to the station to see if there's another train coming?". Until the mid-1960's scenes like this were everyday events on thousands of country branch lines rural Britain. Here in South Devon it still is. |
