Remarks & Notes |
After driving nearly four hours exploring the Laurel Sub with nary a peep on the radio suddenly it came alive just as we were about to leave and head off to explore the remnants of the Milwaukee Road in Lewistown. A Great Falls based local has finished its work on the branch and could be seen dropping down the ex Milwaukee Rd. Central Montana Line and calling for a track warrat to enter the Laurel Sub at Sipple. In this photo you can see the three geeps leading 29 loaded hoppers around the tight curve off the original Milwaukee alignment and on to the fills of the "new" connector build by the BN after they assumed operation of this line in the 1980s. The grade slicing across the middle of the frame is the Laurel Sub mainline (ex GN) and the junction point is MP 122.4. |
