Since this picture was taken the Jiayang Coal Railway has become something of a tourist attraction. But it remains a "real" railroad hauling coal, bricks, not to mention local people and their livestock. It is one of the few steam powered narrow gauge railways in China with a reasonably secure future. And well worth visiting for its pleasant scenery and view of rural life in China.
