Southern Pacific purchased just four GP40X diesels, and the entire fleet was on the railroad's Anaheim Hauler, spotted on the Santa Ana Branch: SP 7230-SP 7201-SP 7200-SP 7231. The two lower numbered units were initially Locotrol Masters, and the two higher numbered engines were Locotrol Remotes. The diesels were built with "elephant ears" over the radiator sides, and are seen her following their "rhinoplasty." (Buena Park, California - December 20, 1985)
