On the morning of February 3rd, 2026, solo Amtrak P42DC #89 leads Northeast Regional Train 125 west through Port Chester, New York on Metro-North’s New Haven Line, passing the historic Life Savers Building in the background. Originally constructed in 1920, the building served as the headquarters and primary manufacturing facility for the Life Savers Candy Company and remains a prominent local landmark today.
A shortage of available electric locomotives at the railroad’s Parcel G Yard in New Haven, CT resulted in the train’s diesel locomotive, normally only used between Springfield, MA and New Haven, CT, covering the entire trip to Washington, DC.
