Aboveground Subway. Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) M3 car 9933 is the lead unit on Atlantic Branch train 8909, seen arriving at East New York Station en-route to Atlantic Terminal. The station is situated amidst Atlantic Avenue, with four lanes elevated above the station and two lanes flanking each side. This arrangement was constructed as part of a grade separation project for the Atlantic Branch, which resulted in the elevated structure at Nostrand Avenue and underground stations at Atlantic Terminal and the former Woodhaven Station. East New York stayed at ground level due to the Bay Ridge Branch crossing below.
