Remarks & Notes
Does This Count as a Train? NS 913, a welded rail train, is seen making its way west through Carney's Crossing after dropping rails in the Gallitzin area earlier in the day. In the "lead" is not a locomotive, but instead a truck, or Rail Unloading Machine (RUM), as Herzog calls it. This truck is meant to replace the conventional drop car seen on welded rail trains. This design is significantly safer than the traditional drop car design, while taking fewer people to operate. Additionally, it can be moved on the road separately from the rail train. Though it appears to be pulling the train, an NS AC44 is shoving from the other end.
