BN 6394, a former GN SDP40, leads an eastbound freight out of the Cascade Tunnel in March 1975. At this time the Cascade Tunnel was the longest in the Western Hemisphere at just under 8 miles in length. After the BN merger in 1970, BN grabbed GN SDP40s and SDP45s out of passenger service and put them in freight service to keep Amtrak from getting them in May 1971.
