The Graveyard Shift
In the fall months, when falling leaves cause wheel slips, the MBTA runs special trains to remove them from the rails. In recent years, this has meant a laser train on the south side lines and a nocturnal wash train on the north side lines. Just after midnight, one of the MBTA's two troublesome gensets is lit up by the lights of TD Garden, shoving the wash train into North Station before embarking on a trip to Haverhill.
