The Next Chapter. After multiple years of planning and waiting, Metrolink's first rostered locomotive, EMD F59PHR 851, has finally arrived its "retirement" home at the Fullerton Train Museum. Built in May 1992, 851 served Metrolink for three decades before being retired in the early 2020s. Since then, it has sat in the railroad's Central Maintenance Facility in Los Angeles waiting for a new home. That day came on January 25, 2026 when Metrolink shuttled the locomotive to the museum in Fullerton, where it will be preserved as a reminder not only of its legacy as the first Metrolink locomotive and the decades it spent shuttling commuters around the region, but also of the F59 class of locomotives that were once so ubiquitous in the Southern California region. Here, 851 comes to a stop in the location where it will now be displayed at the Fullerton Train Museum.
