Remarks & Notes
Triumphant Return. A New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) Z train approaches Flushing Ave on the first afternoon that the R32 cars returned to revenue service. At the time, the new R179 fleet was plagued with mechanical problems and failures, and were pulled from service after two cars disconnected during service. The R32s that relieved them were the oldest cars in rapid transit service worldwide, having entered service in 1964.
