Several locals originate at BNSF's La Mirada Yard, many of them operating at late at night, after the passenger rush of Amtrak and Metrolink trains quiets down. These days, they are powered by either GP60s or GP60Ms.
Among the Geeps parked in the yard this day were this pair: BNSF GP60Ms 122 and 126. (BNSF classes these as GP60M-3 locomotives.) Each of these two were built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in June 19960 for the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway, with the same numbers (122 and 126, in this case) and delivered in the Railway’s impressive "Superfleet" scheme, adapted from their classic red and silver "Warbonnet" scheme dating back to the 1940s – which was a brilliant move on the Santa Fe's part!
