Some diesel locomotives acquired early in the existence of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway were delivered in the schemes of the two component railroads, but with (mostly) new lettering: BN's Greinstein Green and Tan on SD70MACs and Santa Fe's "Superfleet" Red and Silver on Dash-44CWs. (The "mostly" to which I referred? These Dash 9s have BNSF lettering on their hoods, but the nose logo still carries "Santa Fe" on them! Perhaps GE had a pile of those logos on hand and were just using them up, as the nose logo on 718, behind it and built one month later, has BNSF on its nose logo.)
Built by General Electric in June 1997, seven-month-old Dash 9-44CW 707 already has a pretty good coating of dirt on it, particularly on those silver trucks. But I still prefer this scheme to the current scheme … but they never asked me!
