Holding on Track 2 for the afternoon passenger rush is a BNSF Railway double stack train. In another hour or so, after the requisite number of Amtrak Pacific Surfliners and Metrolink commuter trains have passed, this train will continue its journey to the ports in the Los Angeles/Long Beach area.
BNSF Dash 9-44CW 1044, built by GE, leads a quartet of EMD diesels: BNSF GP60 8722 (ex-ATSF 4022), BNSF SD40-2 6885 (ex-ATSF 5157), BNSF GP60 8724 (ex-ATSF 4024) and EMDX SD60 9033 (ex-OWY 9033). Twenty years later, I’d love to see a locomotive lash-ups such as this again, rather than an endless parade of cookie-cutter GEVOs.
(On January 24, 2005, just about a year to the day before this photo was taken, the "Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway" shortened their name to the less interesting, but also less of a mouthful, "BNSF Railway".)
