Highballing with a clean stack (why waste all that fuel making smoke for the 6 or so railfans that are trackside in this Nevada wasteland?), Union Pacific Railroad 4-8-4 8444 heads east after being on display in Las Vegas. A morning departure allows for nice light as it splits the signals on the UP's Caliente Sub on its way back across the desert heading to its home in Cheyenne, Wyoming. (Moapa, Nevada – May 18, 1980)
(And the referenced song won't even be released for another thirteen years!)
