With the timetable change on December 14, 2025, locomotive-hauled trains will no longer run between Switzerland and Germany on the route along the Rhine. Eurocity 31008, replacing the EC 8, is running from Zürich to Basel SBB with the cars of the EC 9 the day before, between Gelterkinden and Sissach. To celebrate this farewell, the train is pulled by the Re 4/4 II # 11109 (Re 420 # 109) in the Swiss-Express paint scheme (last and only operational Re 4/4 II of the SBB in this colors) and Re 4/4 II # 11161 (Re 420 # 161) in green, with new paint finished in the IW Bellinzona some day before (was green before already). More then 20 photographers gathered at this place. The EC 8 from Basel SBB to Hamburg Altona via Köln-Dortmund did not run anymore this day and was replaced by an ICE 4 of the Deutsche Bahn as EC 2870.
