Twenty minutes after sunrise on Thanksgiving Day, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 562 passes through Orange on its journey from Los Angeles to San Diego. Because of the long Thanksgiving week and its heavier than usual passenger count, Amtrak's Pacific Surfliners are running with extra cars; many of 8 cars rather than the usual 6. Thus, this trainset, with 7 former New Jersey Transit "Comet Cars" and a former F40PH (NPCU 90225) on the rear, is operating between LA and San Diego, and not further north. Apparently, Amtrak feels that passengers can live without a café car on this shorter 128-mile (206 km) trip. This train will return north (west in the timetable) later in the morning, as AMTK 573, arriving in Los Angeles at 12:57. (Orange, California – November 27, 2025)
