The SD40-2s were the workhorses of the day - coupled ahead (snapping) or shoving tonnage trains across the Alleghenies. Here a pair lead an SD60M and Dash8-40CW on symbol ALPI's (Allentown-Conway) 150 cars into Horseshoe Curve at the 2416/2417 signal bridge. Another pair of SD40-2s shove on the rear this May afternoon. This was one of 22 trains, plus helper movements, around the Curve between noon and 8pm. Ektachrome.
