Remarks & Notes
On the shores of Bennett Lake. The route of the White Pass & Yukon Route generally follows the eastern shore of Bennett Lake all the way from Bennett, BC to its current northern terminus in Carcross, YT. While building the line along the lakeshore might have seemed easy, it was not without its challenges, particularly in the cold Yukon winters. In this frame, we see the White Pass & Yukon's sole remaining steam locomotive as she takes a passenger special south toward Bennett, BC, passing through a pretty location called "Pennigton." The image was captured near Milepost 51.4, just south of the British Columbia border, during a September 2025 photo shoot organized by Lerro Photography. On the far left, the brown building is the old Pennington Section House at about MP 51.6.
