Even though it says "City of Brookings," this elevator switcher resides farther north in Selby. Ex DME 551 was built for the Milwaukee Road in 1954 as an SD9, and rebuilt later on as an SD10, eventually serving the DME until retirement in the 2000s. Now this locomotive serves as a switcher on the ex Milwaukee Road mainline in Selby, where it probably passed through several times in road service. To the right, BNSF 4170 idles, and would leave later that night on a unit grain train out of Selby.
