Executive Branch Visit
Rare and unique chase with some friends to Potash, Utah.
This was an extremely rare Union Pacific executive trip down the Cane Creek Branch on September 24, 2025. PRFOG-24 with UP 1616 Abraham Lincoln led the passenger special back north out of the Potash mine area to Brendel, Utah. The president of the railroad and distinguished guests rode from Rifle, CO west to Potash, Utah and were bussed afterwards to the private jet fleet awaiting at Moab airport in the late afternoon. Many photographers and Union Pacific official photographers came to capture this first and likely only passenger run to Potash since the branch was built in 1960. An engineering marvel by today's standards, the Moab area Potash Branch down Kane Creek is one of the most dramatic and beautiful railroad lines in the world. Why UPRR spelled it Cane Creek is anyone's guess. The opportunity to shoot a beautiful bright red freshly polished UP Heritage unit with 18 polished Union Pacific was a great privilege, I am glad I had the opportunity to go.
See beautiful diesel locomotives in UP's traditional armour yellow livery and special commemorative paint schemes pulling long trains of yellows cars reminiscent of the days when UP domeliners seemed to go Everywhere West.
