First of its Kind. Metrolink Stadler FLIRT H2 #3501, the first hydrogen/battery powered train in the United States, sits at the platform at the San Bernardino - Downtown Metrolink station just minutes before departing on its first revenue run as train 3860. After years of development and testing, the 'ZEMU' (Zero Emissions Multiple Unit), as it's affectionately known, is finally ready for service, where it will run between San Bernardino and Redlands on the Arrow corridor. The first train was at capacity, with a mix of project staff, railfans, and regular riders who happened to find themselves on this memorable inaugural run.
