On this day, the “Back to Switzerland” campaign of 1990 was finally completed after 35 years with the return of steam locomotives from Vietnam for the Furka Mountain Railway, their refurbishment, and commissioning. The HG 4/4 # 708, built in 1930 by SLM, arrived at Furka DFB from Realp festively decorated, with a train carrying invited guests of the Furka Mountain Railway Foundation. In Gletsch, the locomotive was then blessed by a priest. On that day, the locomotive was formally handed over from its owner, the Furka Mountain Route Foundation, to DFB AG for operation. However, it had already been in service with scheduled trains since mid-July.
