New Repaint On Display. As part of the Riverhead Railroad Festival at the Railroad Museum of Long Island in Riverhead, New York, the MTA LIRR brought LI 101 (EMD, SW1001, 3/1977) to display. This unit operated for LIRR before working for New York & Atlantic Railway. When its time at NYA was complete, arrangements were made for the locomotive to be repainted in its 'as delivered' paint scheme earlier this year. This unit operates in non-revenue service, so catching it during the event on the weekend of Saturday, August 23, 2025, to Sunday, August 24, 2025 may be your best chance to see it with prior planning. The museum has a number of other pieces of LIRR vintage equipment and memorabilia on display throughout the weekend.
