| Northwestern Passenger.
Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) DMU no. 113 is seen racing south, operating as Trip 3 to Larkspur. The relatively young commuter service - only in its eighth year of regular service - operates passenger service on 48 miles of the former Northwestern Pacific Railroad in its namesake Sonoma and Marin Counties. In 2022 the agency purchased the freight rights and equipment of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad Co., briefly subcontracting freight operations back to NWPco and now operating freight 62 miles of track as "SMART Freight." |
