Remarks & Notes
Benicia's Bridges. Amtrak California cab car 6963 is in the lead on Capitol Corridor train 538, seen here crossing the Benicia-Martinez Bridge over the Carquinez Strait. The massive structure was opened in 1930 by the Southern Pacific Railroad to replace ferries across the strait. It achieves 70-foot vertical clearance under the trusses, but also features a lift span capable of nearly double that clearance.
