On June 1, 2025, Long Island Rail Road train 6007, led by EMD DM30AC 518, passes the abandoned freight house while making its station stop at Amagansett, New York, on the Montauk Line. Built in 1895, the freight house, along with the passenger station, served as the eastern terminal until 1927, when a new yard opened in Montauk. It continued to handle local shipments until the early 1960s, after which it was abandoned and left to fall into disrepair. Though the freight house is recognized with its own special section (A-4 Section D) in the Town of East Hampton’s Zoning Appendix A "Amagansett Historic District Guidelines," its future remains uncertain.
Locomotive-hauled trains extend LIRR service from Midtown New York to the eastern reaches of the North and South Forks. Power has gone through four generations since steam service ended.
