Former Rhaetian Railway main network rotary steam snow blower Xrot d # 9212 was delivered by the SLM in 1913 as "R 12" to the RhB (together with sister R # 11). Unlike the similar Xrot d # 9213 and # 9214 snowblowers of the Bernina Railway, these snowblowers were not self-propelled, but were always pushed by a locomotive. However, they have an auxiliary drive on the second axle of the front bogie for maneuvering in stations or depots. The “R 12” was refurbished and renovated by Martin Horath and his team over many years and has been operational again since 2000. Here, the machine is standing in front of the carriage shed in Realp DFB. However, other machines, such as modern tracked snow blowers, are used for snow clearance on the DFB in difficult conditions (hard avalanche snow, ice, etc.).
