Back To Back In Albany. Amtrak P42Cs 9701 and 9700 were parked in the MOW/Private Car Yard at the Amtrak Albany-Rensselaer, NY on Sunday June 1, 2025. Amtrak is planning to convert more P42DCs to P42Cs (cab car) to facilitate changing ends more quickly at terminals. As the P42 has a maximum allowable speed of 110 MPH, it is not suitable for Northeast Regionals, and will likely be seen mostly on trains like Empire Service. The conversion left in place most of the standard locomotive equipment in a deactivated state, and the locos are painted in Phase VII, the railroad's newest scheme. The cars are coupled to the former C&O "Chapel Hill", with Webb Rail's WEBX 800144 and 800145, a pair of former Northern Pacific dome cars, and Pennsylvania Pullman's "Colonial Crafts" in the background.
