San Diego-bound Amtrak San Diegan 772 makes its first stop, in Fullerton, after departing Los Angeles. Eleven-month-old Amtrak SDP40F 527, with a lot of dirt on it, as well as the trademark peeling black underbody paint (in this case, exposing jade primer … it almost seemed as if each early SDP40F had a different color of primer!), is teamed with 21-year-old F7B 399 (ex-AMTK 151, ex-Burlington Northern 9747, ex-Great Northern 384B; originally Great Northern 464B). This train consists of the typical mixed heritage cars typical of Amtrak's early days. (Fullerton, California – June 2, 1974)
