A Preview Of The Future. On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Amtrak Alstom Acela 2 TS 12 headed for Boston with AMTK 2124 leading as Train 888. This is the "commissioning" run for this set, a late stage of acceptance testing. The train is crossing the Bronx River Bascules over the Bronx River in the Bronx, New York, a 1908 New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad structure, which was referred to as “bridge number 3.40”. As part of the "Penn Station Access Project", the 350-ton span (seen to the right of active track) was recently placed to accommodate additional track to be constructed, reinstalling what had been the right of way of the New York, Westchester, and Boston Railway until its abandonment in 1939. To the left, the blue pedestrian bridge is part of Starlight Park on the Bronx River Trail, while the MTA NYCT Subway 6/Pelham Line utilizes the spans on the elevated structure in the background.
