Remarks & Notes |
After a crew change in downtown Bend, BNSF 714 heads south through the volcanic rock of Lava Butte. The volcanic rock is from Newberry Volcano which is named after John Strong Newberry, a surveyor for the Pacific Railroad in the 1800's. The last eruption from Newberry came about 1,300 years ago but is considered a very high threat level to the United States Geological Survey. |
