Remarks & Notes |
Wasen i.E. (Wasen in Emmental) is the terminus of the 5.2-kilometer branch line from Sumiswald-Grünen, today owned and operated by the Emmental Railway. This is probably the very first time that a BLS Ae 4/4 locomotive has reached this station, which used to be part of the Emmental-Burgdorf-Thun Railway network and later belonged to Regionalverkehr Mittelland. The train with two birthday parties had two BLS type I first-class coaches. The track is too short for two of these carriages to pass. A complicated maneuver had to be carried out to bypass the carriages individually. Behind the photographer is the approximately 50 meter long stub track, the locomotive had pulled ahead with one wagon and is now pushing back over the passing siding in order to approach the second wagon later. Then it is pulled forward a little, the first wagon is unhooked and the locomotive pushed with the second wagon into the stub track and then over the bypass track. The maneuver is completed when the other car has been approached again. All switches are operated manually. There is no safety installation on this line with only one train allowed.
