Farewell IC3. This week in January of 2025, Israel Railways announced that the last set of "Flexliner" IC3 cars (Built by ABB Scandia in Randers, Denmark) was removed from service and shipped to Romania. The Flexliners, which served about 30 years on these rails, were revolutionary for Israeli rail commuters. They are air conditioned and had all manner of modern conveniences...and were the first cars in Israel to ban smoking in any part of the train. The table section of the cars was always the first to be occupied, and the 3-car DMUs sets were frequently coupled to 6 and 9 car trains. Fellow units of this class were shipped to North America and used on both Amtrak and VIA as test trains, though no orders were ultimately placed. In this photo from September 14, 1995, Israel Railways 188-7205 is stopped at Tel Aviv Central Station in Tel Aviv, Israel. Above the cars are platform lights that feature an advertisement for "Maccabee Beer", one of the most popular brands of beer in Israel.
