KCS 4859 (ES44AC) leads CPKC 246 through Des Plaines, IL, with CP 5108 (SD40-3) trailing. The lead locomotive is Kansas City Southern's "Safety Starts Here" promotional unit, emphasizing the need for employee safety in railroad operations. The paint scheme is unique in how the "Safety Starts Here" message is applied to both sides of the unit - on the engineer's side, it's in English, while on the conductor's side (seen here), it's in Spanish (covering both the U.S. and Mexican sides of the KCS operation). Incidentally, this train had multiple issues enroute (including a separated air hose), causing the train to not pass until just before 2 am.
A recent spike in a personal interest of the skill and work it takes to create and ultimately nail a shot in the dark using flash technology, leads to this album.
