Leaser Exchange: NJT 4111 sits idle at the Morristown & Erie (M&E) Shops after NJT YD41 picked up NJT 4105 from the M&E and exchanged it for NJT 4111. Railroads that exercise trackage rights over NJ Transit need “good leader” engines that are compliant with the latest PTC requirements. If they don’t have compliant equipment, they can lease engines from NJ Transit, as seen here. The east-end interlocking signals for "Baker Interlocking" on the Morristown Line can be seen just above the trees at the top of the photograph. The engine was originally built for the Central Railroad of New Jersey as GP40P CNJ 3674. It then went to NJ Transit as NJT 4103. It was rebuilt in the 1990s by Conrail’s Juniata Shops to become GP40PH-2 NJT 4111. By early 2013, it was removed from passenger service and stored on the Garwood Industrial Track. By the late 2010s, it had its number boards replaced by number plates and was brought back to service as a work engine.
