Remarks & Notes
One Geep, Two Geep, Red Geep, Blue Geep. Sometimes the headlines writes itself as MTA Metro-North Railroad's AMMO crew uses MNCW GP35r 106 106 (née-PRR 2274, GP35, 5/1964) to tow a "mini-bomb" (3 Bombardier coaches) led by leased CTrail GP40-3H CTDX 6698 (ex-CSX 2181, exx-SBD 2181, née-CRR 2001, GP38, 4/1967) towards Depot Place and the High Bridge in the Bronx, New York on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Due to a mechanical problem, the locomotive was en route to the Metro-North Croton Harmon Facility for repair. The CTrail locomotive is on lease to Metro-North, and can usually be seen operating on the Connecticut branch lines. The High Bridge opened in 1848, but was closed from 1970-2015. After a major rehabilitation, it re-opened to pedestrians June 9, 2015. It sits 140 feet above the Harlem River and unites Manhattan Island with the Bronx and thus mainland of the Unites States of America. It is also New York City's oldest existing bridge, pre-dating the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge by 35 years. With this morning view, the 200-foot tall Highbridge Water Tower in Manhattan also comes into the photo.
