Unsent Signals.
Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) M7 no. 7751 is the lead unit on Hempstead Branch train 6725, seen crossing through the interlocking east of Elmont Station. On the Main Line east of here, the Hempstead Branch operates using the southern two tracks with island platforms at Bellerose and Floral Park, after which it breaks away onto the branch proper. West of here the branch services operate on the outer tracks with side platforms at Elmont, Queens Village, Hollis, and Hillside Facility stations. A new signal bridge has been installed over the interlocking, but as of yet the dwarf color light and pedestal position light signals still remain at ground level.
The nation's busiest passenger railroad depends every day on a fleet of nearly 1,000 multiple unit cars to bring hundreds of thousands of commuters to and from their jobs.
