Holiday Special.
The NY Transit Museum's 2023 Holiday Nostalgia Train is seen arriving at 7th Ave Station on the IND 53rd St Line of the New York City Subway. The train is led by car no. 1575, which was built as an R7A in 1938 by the Pullman Company. The "Special" rollsign is particularly fitting for this car, as it was involved in a a wreck in 1946 and rebuilt into a prototype R10 to test new interior and cosmetic features. The conversion was only to the body and interior, however; mechanically and electrically it is still an R7A and thus can only operate with other R1-9 "Arnine" cars. 1575 has been a regular part of the otherwise matching Arnine consist used by the Transit Museum in recent years, but has rarely led the train.
