EMD built 54 1,800 hp SD18 locomotives, built for Bessemer & Lake Erie, Chesapeake & Ohio, Chicago & Illinois Midland, Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range, and Reserve Mining. They were constructed with both high and low noses, and C&O’s had trucks from traded in Alco RSD-5s. DM&IR No. 193 shows off the lines of a standard high-nose version of the model at Keenan Yard, Minnesota, on September 9, 1989.
