With a Wells Fargo SD70MAC leaser locomotive second (WFRX 8868; formerly BNSF 8868), NS 24X brings some extra color to the Lehigh Line this morning. The leader was rebuilt from C44-9W NS 9164 in September 2020; the third unit, NS 4257, was rebuilt from C44-9W NS 9009 in August 2019. While the weather was technically clear, the atmosphere had some residual smoke effects from wildfires in Canada. The smoke, traveling hundreds of miles, had been plaguing the greater New York City area for the past several days, at times very significantly.
