Coal tipple rebuild. Here's a view of East Broad Top Locomotive #16 pulling alongside the company's coal tipple in the South Yard at Rockhill Furnace, PA in April of 2023. This coal tipple has not been used in quite a number of years and as can be seen in this image, the track immediately adjacent to the coaling facility has actually been removed. Fortunately, that's because the new EBT Foundation is in the process of restoring this facility, so that in the future, the steam locomotives can once again be refueled here. Viewers who are familiar with the historic look of this portion of the yard will note the presence of a new shed at the top of the hill. Although historically, coal was delivered to this facility via hopper cars, which traveled to the top of the hill via a ramp track, going forward, the plan is to deliver coal by truck and the delivery facilities will be inside that shed. Obviously, a lot more work remains here, as crews will be shoring up bunker, replacing the chutes and eventually, putting back the loading track.
This image was captured during an April 2023 photo shoot at the East Broad Top Railroad, which featured the newly-restored Baldwin Mikado #16, seen here.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
