| AMARILLO TX July 6 1986 — Santa Fe GP35u 2888 leads a covered hopper train on the Transcon south of Amarillo. EMD built the unit in June 1965 as GP35 1388. It was delivered in blue body with yellow ends (bookends). During the March-July 1970 general renumbering it was renumbered to 3388. After mid-June 1972 it was painted with a blue body and yellow warbonnet. In April 1983 it was rebuilt and renumbered as GP35u 2888 and gained a cab-roof air conditioner. It was transferred to BNSF on Sept 22 1995. Between November 12 1998 and January 5 1999 it was renumbered BNSF 2588 in its yellow war bonnet livery. My photo. |
