| Push-pull cogwheel train of the Appenzeller Bahnen is leaving Gais, running as S 24 3145 to Altstätten Stadt in the St.Galler Rhine valley. Cogwheel railcar BDeh 4/4 # 17 (built 1993) is shoving the open observation car By # 251 and the transport car for bikes X # 1001, and pulling the cab car ABt # 117. The 7,5 kilometer long line between Gais and Altstätten was inaugurated in 1911 by the Alstätten-Gais Bahn (AB) with three "Strub" cogwheel sections with up to 16.0 %. In 1948 taken over by the SGA (St.Gallen-Gais-Appenzell Bahn) and since 2006 part of the Appenzeller Bahnen (AB). |
